Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate net salary from gross in 2026?

Take your taxable wage, compute income tax (box 1) over the 2026 brackets — 35.75% up to €38,883, 37.56% up to €78,426 and 49.50% above — then subtract the general tax credit and the labour tax credit. What remains is your net salary.

Does paying holiday allowance monthly change my tax?

No. Whether you receive holiday pay as a May lump sum or monthly, your total annual tax is the same. Only your monthly net differs, because one-off payments are withheld at the special rate.

Does an employee pay the ZVW health contribution?

No. For employees the employer pays the income-dependent ZVW contribution (6.10% in 2026) on top of the wage — it is not deducted from your net. Self-employed people pay it themselves, via their assessment.
